Christmas Craft Creations April Theme: Humor!
Christmas Craft Creations April Theme: Humor!
Hello! We have another wonderful themed challenge on the Christmas Craft Creations blog this month-- creating humorous or funny Christmas cards. This theme is meant to give a nod to another holiday--April Fools (a day of trickery and pranks in the United States). As a Star Wars nerd, I decided to lean into a Star Wars pun for my card. We look forward to seeing your funny holiday cards!
Stamps: Kindred Stamps' Galactic Origins and Galactic Fighters stamp sets, Hero Art's Stunning Snowflakes stamp (a woodblock from 2012-very retired)
Dies: Gina K Design's Master Layout 2 die set
Paper: Watercolor paper, Tonic Studio's Black Velvet Craft Perfect cardstock
Ink: Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide, Blueprint Sketch Distress Ink, Altenew's Permanent Black, Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink
Embossing Powder: Ranger's Holographic embossing powder
Markers: Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers
Sakura Stardust Gelly Roll pen
Sprays: Technique Junkies' Miami Vice Shimmering Bliss Spray
White acrylic paint
Sequins: Catherine Pooler's Crater Lake sequin mix
Altenew's Instant Dimension Foam Tape
I started the card by die cutting a piece of watercolor paper with the second-largest stitched rectangular die from Gina K Design's Master Layout 2 die set. I then stamped the character on the right side from Kindred Stamps' Galactic Origins stamp set with Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink and heat embossing him with Ranger's Holographic embossing powder. I then created a mask for him and stamped the character on the right from the Kindred Stamps' Galactic Fighters stamp set with more of the Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink and heat embossed him with more of the Holographic embossing powder. I then masked the second character and got to work on the background.
I sprayed the whole panel with Technique Junkies' Miami Vice Shimmering Bliss Spray. After the spray dried, I stamped the panel with Hero Art's Stunning Snowflakes stamp with Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide and heat embossed with more of the Holographic embossing powder. The panel was then ink blended with Blueprint Sketch Distress Ink in the more central part of the panel and Altenew's Permanent Black ink on the edges of the panel. I then rubbed a rag across the snowflakes to get the residual ink off of them so we can see the light blue of the Tumbled Glass Oxide below the embossing powder. I then splattered white acrylic paint mixed with water across the panel. I then used a variety of Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers to color in the two characters and added some sparkle with my Sakura Stardust Gelly Roll pen.
Next came the matte layer. It was die cut using the largest die from Gina K Design's Master Layout 2 die set out of Tonic Studio's Black Velvet Craft Perfect cardstock. The stamped and colored panel was then glued onto the matte layer.
The reason I went with this card for the April theme is the pun of "Merry Sithmas" rather than "Merry Christmas," especially since the Sith are the bad guys in Star Wars. The sentiment came from Kindred Stamps' Galactic Origins stamp set, again stamped on watercolor paper with more of the Nocturne VersaFine Clair ink and heat embossed with more of the Holographic embossing powder. I then used my paper trimmer to trim the paper down and ran the four edges of the strip in the Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide to add some color around the edges. This was attached to the card base with some strips of Altenew's Instant Dimension Foam Tape.
Sequins from Catherine Pooler's Crater Lake sequin mix were added onto the card on the bottom left corner and around the sentiment. To finish the card, I glued the whole thing onto an A2-sized white card base.
Thanks for reading! We hope that you can join us for this month's Christmas Craft Creations' challenge.
What a fun card...love the background!
