Turtle Card
Turtle Card
Hello friends! So one of my favorite animals are turtles and I was happy to use on of my turtle stamps on this card that I made for a few challenges: Let's Squash It challenge #16, The Cut It Up challenge #243 (anything goes), Passion for Markers challenge #624 (use a die) and Simon Says Stamp's Instagram Challenge for January (using an embossing folder).
Supplies used:
- Stamps: Hero Art's Carry the World stamp set, Wonky Backdrops by Julie Ebersole Essentials by Ellen (Hutson) stamp set
- Dies: Hero Art's Carry the World dies, heart die in my stash, 2 stitched circle dies in my stash, A2-sized rectangular stitched die in my stash
- Embossing Folder: Creative Expressions' Radiant Rings Pinpoint Embossing Folder
- Paper: patterned paper in my sash, gold glitter cardstock in my stash, watercolor paper
- Ink: Dazzle VersaMark Frost ink, Hero Arts Tide Pool dye ink
- Markers: Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers
- Embossing Powder: Ranger's Gold embossing powder
- Gansai Tambi's Gem Colors watercolor set
- Sequins: Catherine Pooler's Blackfoot River sequin mixes
- Altenew's Instant Dimension Foam Tape
- Bearly Art Precision Craft Glue
The background was created by die cutting a piece of teal patterned paper (actually all of the paper you see other than the glittery gold and the turtle was taken from the same marine piece of paper) with a stitched A2-sized rectangular die. It was then embossed with Creative Expressions' Radiant Rings pinpoint embossing folder. Blue and green watercolor from my Gansai Tambi's Gem Colors watercolor set were splattered over the paper. Some Gold embossing powder from Ranger accidentally found its way onto the card and stuck to the watercolor splatters, so I just went with that and heat embossed the panel.
The turtle came next. Hero Art's Carry the World stamp set was stamped onto a piece of watercolor paper and then heat embossed with more of the Gold embossing powder. The image was colored with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers mixed with water to create a watercolor effect. After the turtle had dried, I die cut the image with the corresponding die. I also die cut two pieces of scrap paper with the same die and then glued all 3 die cut layers together for dimension.
The heart was cut out of the part of the patterned image with lots of coral and marine flora using a heart die in my stash. After die cutting 2 additional hearts with more scrap cardstock, I glued all 3 layers together and then used my Dazzle VersaMark Frost ink to heat emboss the edges of the heart with more Gold embossing powder.
There are 3 circle die cuts on the card: one cut out of glitter gold cardstock, one cut out of the same patterned paper as before that I stamped some dots from the Wonky Backdrops by Julie Ebersole Essentials by Ellen (Hutson) stamp set with Hero Arts Tide Pool dye ink and a smaller circle that I stamped a sentiment from the same Carry the World stamp set. The sentiment was stamped with more of the Dazzle ink and heat embossed with more Gold embossing powder. After using the smaller circle die to cut out the sentiment, I painted around the border of the circle with blue watercolor from the same Gem Colors watercolor set that I used on the background panel.
To assemble the card, I glued the two larger circles together so that the gold glitter peeks out on the left side of the polka-dotted blue one. I then used some Altenew Instant Dimension Foam Tape to attach the smaller circle die cut with the sentiment onto the other circles. Then all 3 circles were glued onto the card panel. The heart was glued onto the card panel, and the turtle was glued onto the heart. Catherine Pooler's Blackfoot River sequins were glued around the card panel. Finally, the whole panel was attached to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with more glue.
