Altenew's October Inspiration Challenge

Altenew's October Inspiration Challenge

Hello friends! Today's card was created for Altenew's October Inspiration Challenge and to keep working through Altenew's Easy Ink Blending Techniques class. I had a lot of fun with my alcohol inks and playing with my background. I was able to sneak in a lot of sparkle in this card (always my favorite thing to do). Thanks Altenew!

Supplies used:

The focus of the card for me was the leaves themselves. I have been really enjoying my Tropical Leaf Mix die set and alcohol inks lately so I decided to use them as the focal part of my card. I pulled out a bunch of alcohol inks and Yupo paper and got to work. I created two pieces of colored Yupo paper--one with browns (Pinata's Havanah Brown, Couture Creation's Burgundy, and Ranger Mixatives in Pearl, Rose Gold and Gunmetal) and one with yellows (Ranger's Sunshine Yellow and Pinata's Sunbright Yellow as well as Ranger Mixatives in Pearl). As the alcohol ink dried to the point of being tacky rather than wet, I rubbed some waste gold foil over them to have additional sparkle on the panels. Then I die cut a few of the different leaf dies from both the yellow and brown panels. I also die cut a few of the rib dies out of Tonic's Gold Dust Glitter Cardstock. I glued ribs onto most of the leaves and then heat embossed a two of the leaves to make them curl to add dimension. I then set them aside.

Next, I die cut a piece of smooth white cardstock with the Doodled Dots die cut and then ink blended the paper with all three blue inks--the Catherine Pooler Something Blue ink on the outside edges of the card, the Tumbled Glass Distress Ink in the center of the card, and the Salvaged Patina Distress Ink in the middle. I then sprayed the whole panel with Altenew's Iridescent Ink Spray and set it aside to dry.

The sentiment came next. I stamped an encouraging sentiment from Altenew's Tropical Jungle stamp set with more of Catherine Pooler's Something Blue ink and heat embossed it with Holographic embossing powder. I die cut the sentiment with the smaller stitched flag die from Gina K's Master Layout 2 die set and then ink blended with the Tumbled Glass ink around the edges.

To assemble the card, I cut the blue die cut panel in half and then distressed the edges with my Tim Holtz Paper Distresser. It was then glued down to the left side of a kraft A2-sized card. I tucked a piece of light blue sparkly washi tape right under the blue panel. Then I added a piece of double sided tape next to the washi tape and then used it to adhere more gold foil to the card. To the right of that, I added a piece of white washi tape that had been cut into a pattern to cover almost the rest of the cardbase. Over all of this went the leaves. I decided at this point to add a couple pieces of patterned paper behind two of the leaves (the top right brown leaf and the bottom yellow leaf for just a little more interest/dimension) and glued all of the leaves onto the card. Then I added the sentiment with some Altenew Instant Dimension tape and trimmed the rightmost edge. To finish the card I then added a few sequins from Trinity Stamps.
