Hello to Color Throwdown #648 & Freshly Made Sketches #491

Hello to Color Throwdown #648 & Freshly Made Sketches #491

Hello friends! Today I wanted to share a card I created with the Color Throwdown #648 and Freshly Made Sketches #491 challenges in mind and for my second assignment in the Easy die cutting techniques class at Altenew Academy.

The Altenew class assignment focused on using a die as a stencil, so I cut the Doodled Dots die from Altenew with some cardstock and used it as a stencil for my background. I decided to divide the background into fourths for the Freshly Made Sketches challenge, and to include all 4 colors for the Color Throwdown challenge and ink blended with 4 Distress Oxide inks: Kitsch Flamingo, Wilted Violet, Carved Pumpkin, and Twisted Citron. Then I cut it with it with the largest rectangle from the Gina K's Master Layout 2 die set and ink blended around the border of the the panel.

Next, I stamped the larger flower image from Altenew's Starry Flowers set with VersaFine Claire in Morning Mist and then heat embossing it with  Holographic embossing powder from Ranger on some watercolor cardstock. I then used some Altenew Watercolor Brush Markers to color the image. After the image dried, I used the corresponding die cut 3 times: once to cut out the stamped image, and twice to cut out some scrap cardstock. All three layers were glued together for dimension. I then decided to do a little more ink blending on the floral image to cover the white parts of the image.

The sentiment came from Altenew's Tropical Jungle set, which I also stamped with the VersaFine Morning Mist and heat embossed with the Holographic heat embossing powder. I then diecut the sentiment with the small stitched flag die from the Gina K Master Layout 2 set (along with two other pieces of scrap cardstock). I ink blended more of the Kitsch Flaming ink on the sentiment and added some random flecks of water to give it some interest. All three layers were glued together and set aside to dry.

To create the frame, I die cut more of the watercolor cardstock with the Reverse Confetti Outlined Frame die. After die cutting, I sprayed Festive Flamingo Shimmering Bliss onto the panel.

To assemble the card, I glued the floral image right over the part of the front, multi-colored panel that featured the Kitsch Flamingo dots. I then added the sentiment on top with more glue and some foam tape around the ends where they didn't touch the floral image. I then added some sequins from Catherine Pooler's Summer City sequin mix onto the card panel. Foam tape was used attach the multi-colored panel to the pink border and provide dimension.  I then added some random splatters of Technique Junkies Gold Shimmering Bliss Topper across the whole multi-colored panel. Finally, I glued the frame to a white card base.
